How to open a PSD file in photoshop CS5?

i have a filed saved under psd because i want to view all the inputs and layers i have to make that certain graphic. and every time i open that file which is named Untitled-40.psd and none of the layers come up like its supposed to. i dunno if you understand what my problem is. but i would just like to know how to open up the layers of a psd file in cs5. thank you! =)
