Putting pics on my ipod??

ive got a ipod nano generation 3 ..8gb... and i wanted to put 6 pictured on there ive got 24 mbs left...but it still keeps saying there isnt enough room...i thought pictured didnt take up much room at all...........so should i deleted stuff off there to get the pics on or is there another problem
