Should “Truth” and “News” be two separate entities, or synonymous?

Should anyone calling themselves a “News Program, News Papers or News Website” be required to tell the “truth” to the best of their abilities while covering an event? Or is it okay to lie while ping yourself off as a “Reliable News Source”?
