Twinkies in Zombieland?

I know the reason in the movie that Woody's character is obsessed with twinkies, but I was wondering if anybody knew the reason that they put the whole twinkie thing in the movie in the first place? was it just product placement or maybe it had some significance to someone? I know it wasn't Woody's idea because he has stated that he hasn't had one in like 25 years and only eats vegan food.
